DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY

COURSE PORTFOLIO

SECOND YEAR DENTISTRY

WELCOME NOTE TO THE STUDENTS

Dear Dentistry students, welcome to the second year. As you know the study of our Dental School includes three stages:

Stage I:     the preparatory stage (First Year).

Stage II:    the Academic (basic medical sciences) stage (Second and Third Years).

Stage III:  the Clinical stage (Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Years).

Congratulation, you passed stage I. But what about stage II? Stage II includes the basic medical sciences. The aim of this stage is to lay down a solid foundation for the subsequent full-time clinical study in stage III of the Bachelor program. This foundation will include knowledge, skills and attitudes, particularly attitudes toward the learning process. The curriculum philosophy in stage II is enforcing the development of a mixture of teaching approaches including “student-directed learning”. By the end of stage II, you should be ready to be much more involved in the control of the learning process.

Courses of Stage II:

During the Second Stage: The students have to finish the following courses: Anatomy, Histology

and Embryology, Physiology, Clinical Biochemistry, Oral Anatomy, Islamic Studies, English Language.

Department of Anatomy have the honor to introduce this Course Portfolio to you hoping that it may be helpful in making you oriented with the aim, objectives, contents of our courses, and through it, you find the answers of the frequently asked questions.

With my best wishes

Dr. Abdul Monem Al-Hayani
