Lecture (1): Introduction.

Learning Objectives:

After this lecture, student should be able to:

1.  Know the meanings of word "Anatomy" and other terminology.

2.  Know the different branches of Anatomy.

3.  Imagine the different planes and sections of the anatomical position.

4.  Understand the different types of movements.

  

Detailed Contents:

v     Meaning of Anatomy, Embryology, Histology, Imaging, ….. etc.

v     Supine and prone positions.

v     Coronal, sagittal, parasagittal, transverse sections and planes.

v     Flexion, Extension, Adduction, Abduction, Medial and Lateral Rotation and circumduction and other different movements.

Lecture (2): Bones.

 Learning Objectives:

After this lecture, student should be able to:

1.  Know the definition and different classifications of bony tissue.

2.  Know the types of ossifications.

3.  Identify and describe the whole body bones, and their sides.

  

Detailed Contents:

v     Constituents of bones.

v     Parts of bones (epiphysis, diaphysis and metaphysic).

v     Long, short, irregular, flat, sesamoid and pneumatic bones.

v     Membranous and Cartilaginous ossification.

v     Bones of the axial skeleton: skull, vertebrae, ribs and sternum.

v     Bones of the Upper limb: scapula, clavicle, humerus, radius, ulna, carpals, metacarpals and phalanges.

v     Bones of the Lower limb: hip, femur, tibia, fibula, tarsals, metatarsals and phalanges.

Lecture (3): Joints.

 Learning Objectives:

After this lecture, student should be able to:

1.  Define joints and their types.

2.  Understand their functions, constituents and characteristics.

3.  Understand their stability and movements.

4.  Identify their blood and nerve supply.

5.  Know the different joints of the body.

  

 Detailed Contents:

v     Definition of joints.

v     Types of joints: fibrous, cartilaginous and synovial.

v     Characteristics of synovial joints.

v     Types of synovial joints according to: axis of movement, shape, range of movements and intracapsular structures.

v     Stability of joints.

v     Example of the joints of the body.

Lecture (4): Muscles.

Learning Objectives:

After this lecture, student should be able to:

1.  Identify the muscle and its mode of action.

2.  Know the different types of muscles and their location.

3.  Describe the differences between the muscles.

4.  Know the attachment, nerve supply and action of the skeletal muscles.

5.  Differentiate between different types of skeletal muscles according to: shape and action.

6.  Describe the different types of mode of action of the skeletal muscles.

v     Skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscles.

v     Attachment, nerve supply and action of the muscle.

v     Prime mover, antagonist, synergist and fixator.

v     Muscle tone and motor unit.

v     Nerve supply of the muscle (motor and sensory).

v     Shape of the muscle (parallel, pinnate, flattened and other).

Lecture (5): Cardiovascular System.

1.  Define the cardiovascular system.

2.  Describe the different components of the cardiovascular system.

3.  Differentiate between arteries and veins.

4.  Know the different types of circulations.

5.  Understand the anastomosis, its function and different types of anastomoses.

v     Different arteries of the body.

v     Different veins of the body.

v     Anastomosing and end arteries.

v     Systemic, pulmonary and portal circulations.

v     Capillaries and sinusoids.

Lecture (6): Central Nervous System.

 Learning Objectives:

After this lecture, student should be able to:

1.  Define the function and components of the central nervous system.

2.  Understand the simple reflex arc and its constituents.

3.  Know the functional and structural unit of the nervous system.

4.  Know the basic parts of the brain and spinal cord.

5.  Know the peripheral nerves: sensory and motor.

v     Central and peripheral nervous system.

v     Brain and spinal cord composition.

v     Receptors, afferent pathway, neurons, efferent pathway and effector.

v     Meninges and blood supply of the nervous system.

Lecture (7): Autonomic Nervous System.

Learning Objectives:

After this lecture, student should be able to:

1.  Understand the main function of the autonomic nervous system.

2.  Know the two main components of the autonomic nervous system: sympathetic and parasympathetic.

3.  Differentiate between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves: function, composition and distribution.

  

Detailed Contents:

v     Origin of the autonomic nervous system.

v     Differences between sympathetic and parasympathetic supply.

v     Distribution of both sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves.

v     Autonomic ganglia and their functions, position and distributions.
