Course Title:   Anatomy and Histology for Second Year Medical Technology

COURSE SCOPE AND RATIONALE

Introduction

This syllabus is a guide to the course in Anatomy and Histology for second year Pharmacy. The Department of Anatomy provides a study program which aims to help students to acquire new knowledge and skills essential for the study and practice in medicine. The department also aims to introduce the students to some desirable independent learning habits and attitudes necessary to pursue further training in clinical practice in the College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy. This course extends over a period of one academic year (26 academic weeks). There are two terms. The total academic hours for the whole course are seventy eight (78): 26; lectures – 26; tutorials – 26; practical sittings. There is one mid-year examination and one final examination at the end of the course. There are two quiz examinations; one in the first term and other in the second term.

 Course Description

The second year course in Human Anatomy and Histology for Pharmacy students is system based learning. Starting with Introduction, the students learn the Gross and Micro Anatomy of all the body systems, details of which is given in the relevant section.

 Teaching Methodology

The students attend four (4) hours teaching per week. One hour each for Lecture and Tutorial and two hours for Practical. In lecture the teaching is on board with the help of models and audiovisual aids. The two hour practical session is for teaching on human cadavers, specimens and histology slides.
